GUC232A MAC DRIVER
I tried installing the drivers on a MacBook Pro and it caused the hang on reboot. TM backup via Ethernet. If I didn’t have another mac to do this with, I’d really be hosed. Haven’t had stability problems as have been mentioned, but I only use it for low-throughput serial connections. Boots fine after that. Apple gets what it pays for Review:

I have not found anything to do vt emulation using a serial port. Haven’t had stability problems as have been mentioned, but I only use it for low-throughput serial connections.
The prolific chipset found in most USB serial convertors only supports standard baud rates.
It consumes way too many clock cycles when heavy transfers are in progress, and it will cause a kernel panic if software attempts to select an unsupported baud rate.
Boots fine after that.

It was pretty terrifying for a while. There’s a new prolific driver available, not to mention a universal binary of minicom.

Oh, and I should mention the drivers work “out-of-the-box” for the adapter that I bought. Use the following instructions if you cannot get your GUCA to work.
